KayKay and Prudence

KayKay and Prudence

I spun and plied the last of the fleece today, and got another 186 yards. Total is 1418 yards, 35.23 ounces (just over 2 pounds). I could have gotten a bit more consistent, grist was anywhere from 37 to 46 yards per ounce. I'll just use the thicker yarn at the shoulders, and the thinner at the hems.

This was a good weekend, over all. (I'm studiously ignoring the fact that the sinus headache is back...) Yesterday, I got together with a group of knitlisters from the DOS days at geom.umn.edu- this time at Mary G's house. Vic was back in town, it was good to see her. I think I put Mary into shock when I mentioned that my daughter Becky will be 30 this year...

We went to the yarn store Twist, Yarns of Intrigue, and I got a nice tote bag and some yarn. Go figure... Phyllis brought some books and yarn that came home with me too!

Next, I need to spin a bit more tapestry yarn for next weekend. And plan out the Hanami shawl a bit better - at Twist, I picked up a nice skein of tussah singles that will make it go a lot faster.

RocketGansey-dottir

Skeins--2-28-08

Why the name RocketGansey-dottir? Well, I don't want to name it Son of RocketGansey, so I'm adopting the Norse tradition of naming a daughter after her mother. Instead of Peterson, you'd have Ingridsdottir.

Now I have 1232 yards, and the last skein is a bit thinner-- 43.5 yards per ounce. I'll use that at the bottom hem. The thickest is 36.9 yards per ounce, which will provide stability at the shoulders. That's the plan, anyway!

Somebody sent flowers!!

Here's what happened. I was sitting at my desk, slaving away at compiling usage statistics. And I'll admit, it was making me cranky.

So, when Gale called my office to have me come down to the desk, I was ready to spread a bit of that cranky around if it wasn't really, really necessary to interrupt me in all my statistical revelations.

Now, ask me if I'm ashamed I even thought about being cranky in the first place.

Progress on the fiber front- I have that third bobbin spun!! I think I have enough for one more bobbin, so what I'll do is card up 10gr. mini-batts and divide those up into thirds.

Old Man Losey Had Some Cows

Jim loved his cows. I'm not sure how many head he ran, Mom says it's not polite to ask. Sorta like asking how much somebody makes for a living. Bob (Jim's son, my cousin) tells the story of how Jim took the cows along on his honeymoon... but that was many, many moooooo-ons ago. (pun intended, all mine, don't yell at Bob.)

Actually, it was time to take the cattle to market, so they went along on the honeymoon but didn't come back with them.

Fiber progress: I finished spinning one bobbin of the Prudence fleece, and my goal is to finish the other two bobbins this weekend. (knocking on wood here)

Yarn!

Yarn!

So, leave me a comment. Do you want a lot of mundane details, like "Tonight I knitted 3 rows on the Ice Queen," or not?

Mundacities

Mundacities? I looked it up, it is a real word, based on mundane. That sumarizes my life right now, and that's just what I want.

The Roketman and I backed out of driving back to Hays Kansas (where my mom is) and then on to Omaha for Poor Little Dale's 80th birthday party. From the looks of the weather, we made the right choice!! Mom says they have thirteen inches of snow down on the ground, which is really unusual because that part of Kansas is so flat! Snow usually blows on over to the east, where there are hills and trees to catch it.

That cold a couple weeks ago wiped me out-- I went back to work ok, but the stamina just wasn't there. Regretably, I decided that the trip up to the Mendocino International Fungi and Fiber Symposium just wasn't in the cards either. A week later, and I could probably handle it. (sigh)

When you talk to your supervisor at work to try to solve the dilemma, and she talks about how all the other librarians are going to the national conference... you get a pretty strong clue to her preferences for your time.

The Roketman and I are both supposed to be off all week. I say supposed to be-- he's got a couple of really hard deadlines at work so he's getting overtime pay to work Wednesday and Thursday. So Jez from work and I are planning to go to Marukai in Gardena. (long pause to find the URL, with a major distraction to read the current flyer...)

Let's see if I can find my original point in blogging, okay?

I have a few goals for this holiday season. Let's list them here, and try to keep track. You have been warned of the mundacity, but keeping myself real is part of what this blog is (supposed to be) about.

  • Finish theses projects: (see pictures on my Ravelry Projects page if you're a member)
    • Garter Stitch Raglan
    • Poppy Sweater (Elsebeth LaVold pattern)
    • Shards socks

  • Card and spin enough wool to reclaim the dining room
    • Progress so far:
    • Four skeins of thrum-type yarn, with bits from the Oaxaca trip. Carded, spun, abused Judith McKenzie-McCuin style and drying in the back yard
    • Two batts' worth of white Romney, no specified purpose except dyeing. Carded and spun into singles so far.

And in the I-couldn't-help-starting-something file:
  • A pair of socks- yarn is from Phebie's, yarn is "Happy Feet", label says "Spun in Peru for the Plymouth Yarn Co."
  • Need to put that in the Ravelry Project file
