Saturday
Today was a good day. It started out weird, in that "I don't want to feel depressed but I don't know how to get myself out of it" kind of way. Well, this time, instead of starting a new project, we decided to do a short road trip, and shop for fantasy fodder.
We loaded up the puppies, and headed for the ocean. Not the beach, per se, but we toured several marinas.
Have I talked about the Roketman's dream boat? He wants to live aboard a boat, that would be transportable on a trailer... we've talked to a couple of architects but haven't put any money down. More details on request.
Anyhoo, I dropped in on
Alamitos Bay Yarn Company and got the
Rowan Kidsilk Aura Collection. But no yarn. (preening a bit, for being good.)
Both the socks are now all-but-ribbing. I'm sampling on the
Whitefish Bay Farm fleece - the second one I got last year. Gotta get that spun up before this year's shearing... so I can get another without guilt.
No pictures tonight - it's late, need to wake up the Roketman so we can go to bed.
Logwood purple
The logwood yarn is done!! I haven't done the final wash and block yet, but I'm ready to stick a fork in it.
CeeCee kitty approves, but she wouldn't hold still for a good shot.
Click on the pictures to go to Flickr and see the bigger size - you can see the angelina!
Strange things happen at the beach
Here's tonight's picture. I was walking by this souvenir shop, by the beach in Huatulco Oaxaca, and did a double take when I saw the dolphin and crocodile... I still haven't picked a punch line, I think you can write your own.
On the fiber front, I'm all-but-ribbing on sock one, and about 1 1/4 inch up the leg on the other. I stayed home this morning with a really queasy stomach, but kicked my butt to work when I didn't get any worse by noon. Can I relieve the guilt of knitting all morning to say I didn't knit all that fast?
No progress on plying the logwood-dyed romney.
Calla Lilies and Century Plant Blossom
Here's tonight's picture. These are calla lilies from Oaxaca, and the blossom from a century plant. The picture was taken in Teotitlan del Valle, at Demetrio's house. That's where Steph and I took the dye workshop.
On the home front, I knit about half an inch on the socks, and the last three batts of the logwood-dyed romney. Now, I just need to ply them, and do the yarn abuse. Tomorrow night. Maybe.
My neighborhood
This was my view on the way to work, coming down my street. That neat looking building is the administration building at Cal Poly Pomona, with the mountains behind them.
I'm so glad it was clear today - I needed some sunlight on the retinas!
Fiber accomplishments tonight: a bobbin full of logwood-dyed romney, remnants of the holiday spinning. Three more batts to go on that. Plus, an inch on the current socks.
Yarn!
The white yarn at right is what I spun this holiday break (see the spreadsheet below). The brown skeins are from Marcia's estate (sigh... I miss her) and the mini-skeins are from a dye day. If I'd written down the details, I could remember what dye day, and what dyes.
The spreadsheet I started to track my spinning... now I'm realizing that I might want to keep track of all my spinning. The next decision is how much, or maybe how publicly, I want to document all this.
So, leave me a comment. Do you want a lot of mundane details, like "Tonight I knitted 3 rows on the Ice Queen," or not?
